Beauties of Turkey: Eskisehir
Dear resident insurance customers, we would like to share with you this week the Eskisehir issue of our Beauties of Turkey series. If you're ready, let's get to know Eskisehir.
Eskisehir
Eskisehir is famous for its devotion to the cities of its inhabitants. It's the kind of place where you understand why as you set foot in the city and want to paint your face black red when you leave. According to many people, it is the most European place in our country with its quality of life and culture. Eskisehir is where even Ankara residents come to visit at the weekend or just for one night to have fun.
Eskisehir's Woodpazarı region, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Temporary Site with its structures reflecting the seljuks, Ottomans and separate periods of the Republic of Turkey, is the historical city center of the city. This is where Eskisehir was founded. Protected by a successful restoration work, the nostalgic houses of Ottoman architecture, the Museum of Contemporary Glass Arts & the bazaars where you can buy souvenirs are definitely worth a visit.
You can also see Porsuk Creek and the Adalar Region sitting in one of the many cafés around it, but gondola or boat tours can be a good option for you to have a more enjoyable time, especially if you went in summer. Moreover, gondola tours and boat tours are quite affordable because they are done by the municipality.
In 14th century BC, eskisehir's first homeowners -hittites- who built a huge state and made it their center. Later, the Phrygians, Lydians and Persians also ins housed Eskisehir. During the Phrygian period, Eskisehir's name was Dorylaion, a long time well-known by that name.
Eskisehir, which hosted the Roman and Byzantine Empires on its territory respectively, came under the domination of the Seljuk State in 1074 and was then called Sultanonu. There were still a lot of traces of the Seljuk period in the city. After almost 200 years, eskisehir came out of seljuk rule and became Ottoman. After that period, the Karamanians were occupied by the British for a short time, but were able to come under Ottoman rule again before long.
Eskisehir, which also played a big role in the era of the War of Independence and the proclaiming of the republic, has been ravaged during the war years, but it has been renewed many times and survived.
