Turkey's Beauties: Alacahöyük
Dear foreign resident insurance customers, this week we will introduce you to the Alacahöyük district of Çorum province. If you're ready, let's get to know Alacahöyük.
Alacahoyuk
The fact that you once lived in places where other people lived is actually very strange, although it is not a marginal idea. That's what the Hittites who lived in Corum left to us. As e-residence Insurance, we have decided to explore Alacahöyük without needing to go back to 3000, 4000 BC.
The excavation in Alacahöyük began in 1935 on the orders of Mustafa Kemal. Only one tenth of the region, which has a reputation for Hittite sun and whose history exceeds 7,000 years, has been excavated. Alacahöyük is an excavation that began with the 3,000 liras given by Mustafa kemal Ataturk to Afet Inan, one of Turkey's first female history professors, with his directive in 1935.
In 1935 Ataturk ordered the re-excavations in Alacahöyük. Hittite graves appear 15 days after excavations begin. On ataturk's orders, the village is moved and excavations continue in the area evacuated by the village. By 1940, there were 13 king tombs found.
In this mound, 4 cultural stages and 14 settlement and building floors were found. the oldest cultural phase was the copper age between 3500 bc and 3000 ,the early bronze age between 2000 and 2000 bc, the third cultural phase covers the period of hittite civilization between 2000 and 1200 BC, and the fourth cultural phase covers the phrygian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods starting from 1200 BC.
Alacahöyük Museum exhibits works from the Kalkolithic, Old Bronze, Hittite and Phrygian periods. The most important pieces in the building are the finds of 13 tombs of kings from the Old Bronze Age. The museum also features ethnographic works such as local carpets and rugs, wooden agricultural tools, looms and pierthings, cutters and firearms from the Ottoman Period.
Alacahöyük is an important religious ceremony and art center of the Bronze Age and Hittite period. The width of the sphinx door, which is built with andesite blocks on the calcary foundation that can be seen in Ören Place, is 10 meters. This monumental gate on the road connecting to the great temple is the most interesting structure of the Ören Place.
